Poultry Haus

Adventures With The Poultry Queen…

Some time ago, a beloved magazine editor and friend (who occasionally hired me for shoots) asked me if I'd ever be interested in photographing chickens. Now, I'll admit, the notion never occurred to me, but, having grown up with a flock of hens, I was delighted at the prospect. The now infamous "Poultry Queen" aka. Megan McGaffigan.

As any great friendship begins, we met for margaritas, and our crazy, candy coated visions came to life. Megan, an incredibly talented artist and metalsmith, had just completed her Master of Fine Arts in Jewelry/Metal Arts from California College of the Arts. Read more about her here

A series of quirky, playful portraits emerged over the next year. Themed on badass "alter egos" these women chose to personify, each setting was so much fun to create and capture. From 4 am hair, makeup, and chicken wrangling calls, to midnight brainstorming, this was one of The Whiskey Ginger's favorite projects to date.
